Wedding Hire at Somervell, Remuera
About this space
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHURCH IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR WEDDINGS ON SUNDAY MORNINGS (7am-12:30pm)
Somervell Presbyterian Church is a welcoming church that is the perfect location to host a wedding. It has a modern open interior, with large picture windows looking towards Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill. Couples choose Somervell because they like the modern uncluttered space that our auditorium offers. They appreciate the open light filled venues which can be decorated to suit. Situated minutes from Remuera and with easy access from the motorway using the Greenlane exit, and with free parking, hosting your wedding here could not be more convenient.
Anyone can be married in Somervell. You don’t have to be a member of Somervell, or be a Presbyterian, or be baptised. It does not matter if one or both of you are from another or no church background.
The church can set up to 250 people with all the pews installed and some people sitting upstairs on the balcony. Guests are welcome to gather in the foyer before and after the wedding. Contact the office at church@somervell.org.nz to let us know how many people you expect as some pews may need to be moved in and out of the church.
We recommend you book the church from an hour before the start of your ceremony i.e., if your ceremony is at 2pm, book the church from 1-4pm.
Our wedding package:
The wedding package is a fixed price of $990.00 inc GST that includes:
Use of the Church for 3 hours for your wedding ceremony (including set up/decorating and pack down)
Audio-visual technician for wedding and rehearsal, including the ability to livestream the service
A 1 hour rehearsal. We recommend your rehearsal be at least 2 days before the wedding to ensure everything is in order. Contact Somervell to discuss a suitable date and time church@somervell.org.nz
Note: Does not include minister or celebrant (this is available at an extra charge of $500 or you can use your own minister/pastor/celebrant)
We can provide names of organists who may be available to play for your wedding, or you can organise your own organist. You may instead opt to play recorded music instead of having an organist, and you can plug a device into our sound system. BYO any adaptors you may need.
Additional hours above the 3 hour minimum required for weddings can be added at $100 per hour.
FAQs about weddings at Somervell Church:
Does it matter if one of us has already been married or in a civil union? No. A legally dissolved former marriage or civil union is not a barrier to a wedding in our church. If you are currently in a civil union as a couple, the civil union must be dissolved before you can marry one another.
Does it matter if we are already living together? No.
Do we have to have attend any classes or courses? No. We do however recommend you attend a course during your engagement period.
Do we have to attend church before our wedding? No. However we would enjoy your company with us one Sunday.
Is there wheel-chair access? Yes, and disabled toilets.
Can we arrange our own flowers? Yes, we do not organise flowers although our standard church arrangement can stay or be removed for your wedding event.
Can we decorate the church? Yes, but please do not use pins or sellotape to attach to the wall, and all decorations must be removed at the end of your booking and the floor vacuumed. No confetti please.
Do we need a rehearsal? Yes, we recommend an hour’s rehearsal a few days before the wedding. Please contact the office to arrange a time (office@somervell.org.nz)
Is parking available? There are limited off-road parking spaces, but plenty of parking in suburban streets surrounding the Church. There are parking spaces close to the front door for the bridal party.
Can we eat food on site? You are able to book the full kitchen as an add-on, for lite use (tea/coffee and finger food etc.) or full use (cooking meals etc.). Consumption of food is not allowed in the church space, but you can hire the adjoining Hall space to cater for refreshments, or for smaller numbers, eat in the foyer.
